There are no grounds for lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the Foreign Minister of Ukraine for Sanctions Policy Oleksiy Makeyev has stated, while adding that Russia has not taken any action required by the international partners.

“The EU, our North American partners are absolutely aware that after the imposition of sanctions against Russia for armed aggression against Ukraine, after the occupation of Crimea and Donbas, Russia did nothing of what our partners expected, and therefore there are no grounds for lifting the sanctions. By the way, a few days ago Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel stated this absolutely clearly, and there are such sentiments in the key states that are our international partners,” he said on the air of Ukraine 24 TV Channel.

He assured that the easing of sanctions is possible only when Russia ceases the activity that caused the introduction of sanctions against it, and it is precisely the dialogue with partners and even those who doubt the sanctions against the Russian Federation that will be the task of all Ukrainian diplomats in the countries of the world.

The special representative also noted that he will work to achieve compatibility of decisions on sanctions made by Ukraine and its international partners, in particular the EU.
