The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) of Ukraine has agreed a report on suspicion to former MP of the People’s Front faction Mykola Martynenko, who embezzled $17.28 million in funds from the State Enterprise Eastern Ore Mining and Processing, SAP chief Nazar Kholodnytsky reported.

“The pre-trial investigation has established that in the period from 2013 to 2016, the criminal organization consisting of officials of the State Enterprise Eastern (Skhidny) Mining and Processing Combine (VostGOK), officials of STEUERMANN Investitions und Handelsgesellschaft mbH, and a group of people, who had control over these companies, including Mykola Martynenko, embezzled the funds of state enterprise VostGOK in the amount of $17.28 million through improper conclusion and subsequent execution of the contract for the purchase and sale of uranium concentrate of State Enterprise VostGOK through an Austrian company- mediator STEUERMANN,” Kholodnytsky wrote on his Facebook page on April 20.

According to the head of SAP, then these funds were transferred to the accounts of STEUERMANN with the use of offshore companies WARGRAVE TRADING LLP and DALLAS FUEL SA and used by the members of the criminal organization.

“Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine will present the reports about suspicion [of involvement into these crimes],” Kholodnytsky said.

In turn, the press service of NABU said Martynenko is suspected of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 255 (creation of a criminal organization), Part 5 of Article 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or seizure of property through abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The former lawmaker was detained in the manner prescribed by Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine under the criminal investigation into the theft of funds of the state-run Eastern Mining and Processing Combine Mining (VostGOK) during the purchase of uranium concentrate.
