The head of the personnel department, who was recruiting citizens of Ukraine to work in construction firms, has been charged with human trafficking, the Ukrainian service of Polish Radio reported.

“The district prosecutor’s office in Wroclaw has accused 44-year-old Agnieszka G. of trafficking in persons, threats and forgery of documents. The woman was recruiting Ukrainian citizens to work in three Wroclaw construction firms,” the report said.

According to the Polish border guards, this woman, who headed the personnel department of construction companies, is charged on 20 counts, 17 of them related to human trafficking.

The border service said this employee abused personal situation and lack of knowledge of the Polish language by citizens of Ukraine, the Ukrainians’ passports were taken from them so that they could not freely travel around the country and leave their workplaces.

She used the so-called debt mechanism against the Ukrainians. They had to work to cover the costs associated with their employment and to get their passports back.

The head of the personnel department faces at least three years of imprisonment, the Polish Radio reported.
