Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto has summoned Ukraine’s ambassador to Hungary in Budapest about the law on education. In addition, Hungarian diplomats were given instructions not support Ukraine in international organizations on issues important for Ukraine, the Prague-based Radio Free Liberty/Radio Europe has reported.

Hungary’s Foreign Minister has summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador to Hungary Liubov Nepop on Sept. 11 because of the recently adopted law on education.

“Szijjarto has ordered Hungarian diplomats to stop supporting Ukrainian initiatives in international organizations and said Hungary will not support decisions important for Ukraine,” RFE/RL said, citing Hungary’s Foreign Ministry.

Szijjarto on Sept. 7 said in Estonia that Ukraine’s new law on education was a “knife in the back” of it’s neighbor [Hungary].

As earlier reported, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada on Sept. 5 adopted the law on education, which launches education reform in the country. The law stipulates that the language of instruction is the state language [Ukrainian].
