You're reading: Media: Yanukovych’s court-appointed attorney has not yet met with him in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don

Ex-Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych’s government attorney Maksym Herasko has come to see his client in Rostov-on-Don but has not yet met him, Yanukovych’s press secretary Yuriy Kirasir told the Ukrayinska Pravda online newspaper.

“Security has in fact confirmed that a young man has appeared at the gate on the perimeter of the secure property in Rostov[-on-Don], introducing himself as lawyer Maksym Herasko. He had no meeting with Yanukovych,” Kirasir said.

Yanukovych noted in his comments for the press that “unless the prosecution and the court stop violating his rights in the trial, he is not going to meet with anyone in this case”, Kirasir added.

As reported earlier, Kyiv’s Obolonsky District Court on Oct. 5 postponed another hearing in the trial against Yanukovych, who is charged with high treason, until Oct. 11 in view of court-appointed defense attorney Herasko’s trip to Russia for the purposes of meeting with his client and elaborating a legal stance together with the latter.

The Ukrainian court on Oct. 11 resolved to reschedule the next hearing of the case for Oct. 19 because Herasko was not going to return from his trip prior to Oct.13.
