The Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Kyiv confirms the death of a man as a result of a car bombing in the Solomyansky district of Kyiv that took place on June 27 morning, Interfax reprots.

“At 8:16 the law enforcers received a message that the car Mercedes exploded at the crossroads of Solomyanska and Oleksiyivska streets … As a result of the accident, the driver was killed,” the Kyiv Police Liaison Department said.

The law enforcement agency noted that investigative and operational groups, forensic experts, explosives technicians, ambulance doctors and rescuers are working at the scene. The causes and circumstances of the explosion are being established.

“The accident has been duly registered and the issue of its legal qualification is being decided,” the police chief in the capital said.

Meanwhile 112.ua reports a military man of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a victim of car blast in Kyiv’s Solomensky district. Artem Shevchenko, the Communications Department of the Ministry of Interior, reported that to the journalists on the crime scene.

Interfax reports the law enforcers described the incident as a terrorist attack.

“Since he is an active military, the prosecutor’s office will determine the investigation of this criminal proceeding, which is now registered under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as a Terrorist Attack by the Investigation Department of the Main Police Department in Kyiv,” Liaison Department Director of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Artem Shevchenko told reporters, later clarifying that the killed man was a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of 1978 birth year.

Earlier, a number of media reported that on June 27 morning in the Solomyansky district of Kyiv, a Mercedes car exploded, as a result of which one person was killed and two more were injured.

“At the time of the explosion, the driver was in the cabin, the car’s parts scattered around the perimeter of 100 meters and affected other cars. The ambulance and rescuers of the Emergency Service are trying to free the driver. In the meantime, one person was killed. There are two casualties,” the local Internet ezine dtp.kiev.ua said.
