German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the poisoning of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny, alongside the situation in eastern Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh, during their telephone conversation on Monday, a German government spokesperson told Interfax.

“Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone today. The chancellor and the president discussed Nagorno-Karabakh, Ukraine, the Normandy format process, and the Navalny situation,” the spokesperson said, without providing further details of the phone call.

The Kremlin press service said earlier in the day that Putin and Merkel had held a phone conversation.

According to the Kremlin press service, they discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and in Donbas, as well as the bilateral agenda, including contacts between the Russian Health Ministry and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Health regarding coronavirus vaccines.
