You're reading: Minister: Effectiveness of strict quarantine can be assessed over time

The Health Ministry will be able to assess the effect of strict quarantine restrictions after a while, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.

“To assess the strict quarantine restrictions, we should wait until the end of the strict quarantine, the transition to another stage of the strategy. After a certain period of time, we will be able to assess it,” he said.

At the same time, Stepanov said that if we assess the ministry’s strategy for combating coronavirus (COVID-19) disease in general, in particular, weekend quarantine, the situation with the incidence is improving.

“We have a reduction in the number of ill people every day. We have achieved stabilization of the incidence. The main effect of the strict quarantine is that we managed to bring down the wave of the spread of COVID-19 at the initial stages, which was potentially supposed to start after the New Year holidays. Of course, we are looking not only at the incidence but and at the number of people who are hospitalized or have some conditions. Currently, less than 19,000 patients are in medical facilities, in early December it was about 29,000. This is direct evidence that our strategy has an impact on the situation, and the situation is improving,” he said.
