Members of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on Ukraine will meet in Minsk on August 23 to discuss terms of a truce due to be declared from the beginning of September, a source in the group organizing the talks told Interfax.

“The security subgroup is expected to formulate the conditions and implementation mechanism of the ceasefire regime connected with the beginning of the school year. If the attempt proves successful, the Contact Group will then approve this decision,” the source said.

The ceasefire could be imposed on the entire length of the contact line beginning on August 31, he said.

“The task is to secure a total ceasefire so that children on both sides of the contact line can safely go to school on September 1,” the source said.

Also on August 23, the humanitarian subgroup will meet in Minsk after a long break.

“The subgroup will concentrate on negotiating prisoner lists so as to formalize the possibility of a swap consistent with the all-for-all formula,” the source said.

The political subgroup is hoping to return to discussing the Steinmeier formula.

“There is hope that the issue of implementing the Steinmeier formula will be actualized by the sides,” the source said.
