The US is looking for ways to introduce a peacekeeping mission to the occupied territory of Donbas, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell has said.

The US is looking for approaches that would be based on the regulations of the United Nations, as far as peacekeeping operations are concerned, he told journalists in Kyiv on May 2 after a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

At the same time, Mitchell stressed that the US does not want these efforts not to be wasted and used by Russia to cover up their actions in Donbas.

The doors in this direction are open, and the choice is for Russian President Vladimir Putin, and until he chooses peace, the US will continue to do everything to raise the cost of Russia’s actions, the assistant secretary of state said.

He recalled that the United States clearly states that there is war in Donbas.

He also recalled that the condition for mitigating sanctions for Russia is the withdrawal of Russian weapons from Donbas.

The US said military or any other interference by Russia in the affairs of Ukraine is unacceptable, and if this continues, Washington will continue to impose sanctions, the diplomat said.
