“Corruption” has become the word of 2016 according to the modern dictionary of Ukrainian language and slang “Myslovo”.

According to an online dictionary site, the main problem, which was recalled in different contexts over the past year, is corruption.

“Offshore” and “e-declaration” are two more word discoveries in 2016 that “are also components of a wider semantic field of corruption, which heightened interest in the subject during the year.”

“Other important word constructions of 2016 include “bank liquidation” – mass liquidation of troubled banks by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), “visa free” – an abbreviation of the phrase “visa-free regime,” “Brexit” – exit of the UK from the EU, treachery/victory – lexical semantic pair, which is used by users of social networks to assess political events,” the press release says.

“Myslovo” dictionary has chosen the word of the year for the fourth time. “Blockade” was chosen the word of 2015 (referring to the blockade of the occupied Crimea), “cyborgs” – the word of 2014, which means “defenders of the Donetsk airport.” “Euromaidan” word was chosen the main word in 2013.
