You're reading: More than 25,000 Ukrainians apply for partial unemployment benefits

More than 25,000 Ukrainians have applied for partial unemployment benefits since May 4, the employment centers received 6,870 packages of documents necessary for receiving such benefits, the Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Ministry of Ukraine said.

“Since May 4, when the support program for partial unemployment was announced, the number of the packages of documents submitted to obtain benefits has reached 6,873. They are being processed every day, and as of today 1,715 of them have been accepted, which allows providing 25,777 employees with benefits,” the ministry said on its website on Tuesday.

Another 3,339 applications are being considered, it said.

“The program is aimed at helping small and medium-sized businesses to cover expenditures on salaries to employees, whose working hours were cut in order to preserve their jobs. A total of Hr 4.7 billion was allocated for the program,” the press service quoted Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Minister Ihor Petrashko as saying.
