You're reading: Moscow’s court extends arrest of Ukrainian journalist Sushchenko

Lefortovo Court of Moscow has extended the arrest of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko until March 30, accused of espionage in Russia, his lawyer Mark Feygin said.

“The Moscow City Court extended the term of detention to Roman Sushchenko until March 30, 2018. Tomorrow an appeal will be filed,” Feygin wrote on Twitter on Jan. 24.

On Oct. 3, 2016, it was reported that Sushchenko had been detained “while conducting espionage” in Moscow. According to Russian intelligence agencies, Sushchenko is a career officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry with the rank of colonel. Sushchenko is charged with espionage (article 276 of the criminal code), which he denies.
