Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova has come to Kyiv to support detained RIA Novosti Ukraine Editor-in-Chief Kirill Vyshynsky in court, her secretariat said.

“The human rights commissioner has come to Kyiv to support Vyshynsky,” the source told Interfax on July 15.

A hearing of the case involving Vyshinsky, who is suspected of high treason, will be held in Kyiv’s Podilsky District Court on July 15.

The Ukrainian prosecutor general’s press secretary Larysa Sarhan said in social networks that Vyshynsky may be released today.

RIA Novosti Ukraine editor-in-chief Kirill Vyshynsky was detained in Kyiv on May 15, 2018. He is suspected of high treason. He was moved to Kherson, where the court arrested him on May 17, 2018. The Kherson City Court has already extended his arrest several times, while the court of appeals has upheld these rulings.

Russia considers the Vyshynsky case to be politically motivated and demands his immediate release. Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his Q&A session on June 7, 2018 that Vyshynsky had been arrested for his professional activities and Russia would seek his release, “including under pressure from international organizations.”
