MP from the People’s Front faction Yevhen Deidei was wounded near Avdiyivka in Donetsk region on Friday, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) spokeswoman, Larysa Sarhan, has said.

“The wound is not severe. According to the Donetsk regional prosecutor general’s office, people’s deputy Yevhen Deidei sustained a fragmentation injury. Currently he is being taken to the Krasnoarmiysk military hospital. The event happened near the Avdiyivka industrial zone,” Sarhan wrote on Facebook.

Deidei sustained a fragmentation injury in the leg from an 82 millimeter mortar shell, a spokesperson for the Kyiv special -forces police regiment said. He is now in hospital.

“According to preliminary information, the shell piece hit the thigh. Currently Deidei is in hospital where he is receiving necessary assistance. Doctors said the operation was successful. The vital organs were untouched. His condition is stable,” the spokesperson wrote on Facebook on Friday evening.

On July 11 the Verkhovna Rada refused to strip Deidei of immunity at the request of the prosecutor general.

The parliamentarian is being accused of “illegal enrichment” and faces between five and ten years of imprisonment with asset confiscation. The prosecutor general is planning to submit another request to the parliament.
