Civil control is the key to the effective implementation of reforms in the security sector and fight against corruption in Ukraine, the people’s deputy of Ukraine from the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko faction, the head of the permanent parliamentary delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Iryna Friz, has stated.

“Civil control in the security sector is not only an important condition for Ukraine’s integration into Euro-Atlantic security structures, but also the guarantee of an effective implementation of reforms in the security sector and fight against corruption,” she said during the Ukraine Reform Conference held in London.

In her speech, the MP raised the topic of parliamentary and democratic control over the security and defense sector and noted that the creation of effective parliamentary control in the security sphere should not be an attempt to look for errors and violations on the part of heads of law enforcement agencies but the ongoing coordination of efforts in the security sector. And only then it should become a guard, which prevents violations and abuses in the security sphere.
