You're reading: MP: Lukashenko does not take part in any round or closed meeting of Minsk talks

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, whom the EU and the U.S. do not recognize as legally elected, did not take part in the Minsk talks in 2014-2015, his role was limited to the host, co-chairman of the faction European Solidarity parliamentary faction, commissioner on issues of peaceful settlement of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014-2019 Iryna Gerashchenko has said.

At the same time, according to her, the holding of these negotiations was a chance for Lukashenko to get out of international isolation, European Solidarity said on its website. “For the first time in decades, he welcomed high-ranking guests from Europe in the hall of his new, pompous presidential palace. His only ‘participation in the events of that time was an official photo with the presidents and the chancellor. He did not take part in the difficult and exhausting Minsk negotiations, did not attend any round or closed meeting,” Gerashchenko said on Facebook.

The MP stressed that it is very strange to listen to the version of events from Lukashenko, which he can tell only from the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and “the weight of Putin’s words is known to the whole world.”

“It would be worthwhile for Lukashenko to talk about his role in an attempt to legitimize the ‘LDNR,’ because it was on the instructions of the FSB and the Kremlin that Belarus began to recognize the ‘passports’ of these entities and let militants into the country via them. And the only truth in his today’s delirium was the words that Ukraine had abandoned the Russian Federation (…) Then we really outplayed Putin. To give our army such an important respite, to build muscle and liberate the Ukrainian land step by step,” Gerashchenko said.
