Lawmakers have registered bill No. 10019 in the Verkhovna Rada, proposing the introduction of a ban on the production of fur starting from 2025.

According to the bill posted on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the authors of the bill propose to ban the breeding, raising and maintenance of animals for the production of fur from January 1, 2025.

In addition, the bill proposes to oblige entrepreneurs to improve the conditions of animals before the ban enters into force. Thus, the area for one fox, raccoon dog, ferret and arctic fox must be at least 50 square meters, mink – no less than 10 square meters and with access to a pool. It is also proposed to prohibit the maintenance of animals in cages.

According to the bill, the Cabinet of Ministers will be obliged to develop a program to regulate the production of fur until 2025, with a further ban. This program should provide for the re-profiling of enterprises engaged in the production of fur.

The authors of the bill are 36 deputies, in particular, Andriy Pomazanov and Hennadiy Kryvosheya (both are from People’s Front parliamentary faction), Olena Shkrum and Serhiy Yevtushok (Batkivschyna), and Mustafa Nayyem (Petro Poroshenko Bloc).

According to the website of the Verkhovna Rada, in October 2018, the collection of signatures for a petition to ban the production of fur was completed. The petition was supported by 27,500 people.
