You're reading: Mukachevo-Budapest train to be launched from December 9

The first trip of train No. 33/34 between Mukachevo (Ukraine) and Budapest (Hungary) is scheduled for Dec. 9; it will take about seven hours and the fare is about 23 euros, acting head of Ukrzaliznytsia’s board Yevhen Kravtsov has said.

“This will be a daily direct route. The rolling stock, which will run along European-standard railway tracks, belongs to the Hungarian Railways. For our part, we’ve built a separate platform, repaired railway tracks, the signaling and communications systems,” he wrote on Facebook.

The train will depart from Budapest in the morning and from Mukachevo in the afternoon. It will make a half-hour stop in Chop and a stop for over an hour in Záhony.

Since the beginning of the year, Ukrzaliznytsia has seen a positive trend: the number of Ukrainian passengers traveling to Europe has doubled, he said.

“Our plans for Mukachevo are big. There is a developed railway network with all regions of Ukraine, and the creation of a network of trains heading to the EU allows us to create a powerful hub for such traffic,” he said.

In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia is in talks with the railways of the Czech Republic and Slovakia on launching a route to Prague, he said.
