Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnyk has denied NABU meddled in the U.S. presidential election.

“NABU has nothing to do with any meddling in the U.S. election. If we remember the situation a year ago, we received many questions from journalists, including foreign journalists, about [Trump campaign manager Paul] Manafort. The essence of our response was as follows: Yes, that surname exists in the so-called Party of Regions’ black ledger. We stated repeatedly that no investigation of Manafort had been conducted. He is not in our jurisdiction,” Sytnyk said in an interview appearing in the Kyiv-based Den (Day) newspaper published on August 18.

“Why Verkhovna Rada member Andriy Derkach has decided to appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) about the matter is beyond me. I am not surprised by such requests to law-enforcement authorities,” the NABU director said.

As earlier reported, on August 15 media published a PGO document about the start of a criminal investigation into NABU meddling in the U.S. presidential elections. The investigation was triggered by a statement made by MP Derkach based on an investigation made by Era-media.

Derkach confirmed requesting the PGO to investigate the matter, publishing his request on his Facebook page.
