Naftogaz Ukrainy expects that Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU) will launch virtual reverse with Slovakia in 2020, the company’s Twitter page says.

“There are physical gas flows from Slovakia to Ukraine. We hope that this year the independent operator, within the framework of new agreements with the Slovak side and Gazprom, will be able to launch virtual reverse. It’s more profitable – you don’t have to spend gas on pumping back and forth,” the company said.

As reported, GTSOU and Eustream on December 31 signed an interconnection agreement on European rules from January 1, 2020 at the points of Budince and Uzhgorod-Velke Kapusany, which gave the possibility of launching virtual reverse of natural gas.

Virtual reverse involves exchange of natural gas between gas transmission system operators when gas is not physically moved across the border and the parties carry out offsetting.
