Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) will stay in the Black Sea for three weeks in accordance with the Montreux Convention and will take part in NATO’s Operation Sea Shield next week, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s press service has said, citing the commander of the Toronto frigate of the Royal Canadian Navy.
The final point of the NATO ships’ visit to Ukraine was a Passex-type joint exercise with a Ukrainian naval ship in the Black Sea, the press service said.
“During the exercise, the Ukrainian missile boat Pryluky and the FFH333 frigate Toronto of the Royal Canadian Navy jointly performed a tactical maneuver, as well as holding joint practical artillery live-fire exercises and training with the air force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Navy,” it said.
NATO countries’ Sea Shield 2019 multinational exercise is due to start in the Black Sea on April 5. As many as 2,200 servicemen and 20 warships will take part.
