Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva from September 26, 2017 will be absent on unpaid leave until her resignation is approved, the press service of the central bank has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“According to the law on the NBU the head of the central bank is dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada under a proposal of the president. Gontareva is on unpaid leave until the president and the Ukrainian parliament make the relevant decision,” the press service said.

The press service said that the NBU governor does not plan to return to work to the central bank.

As reported, Gontareva sent in her resignation request to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on April 6, 2017.

She was on paid vacation starting from May 11, 2017 until September 26, 2017. First Deputy NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii was acting head of the central bank.
