Newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak has announced personnel changes.

“Personnel changes will absolutely be made with a view toward bettering the situation,” Khomchak told journalists in Kyiv on May 23 after he had been introduced to military personnel.

Khomchak said he was going to hear reports by officials, commanders and their deputies on the same day. “We will determine the contribution of each person with the real state of affairs and will take a decision. The only thing I can say is that not one personnel change will be made based on emotion or using the ‘like or not’ approach. Personal relations will have nothing to do with it, just an appraisal of the result of activity, the result of the state of affairs in the area which they answer for. And after that a decision will be made,” he said.

Khomchak also said everyone knows that the problem of “scamming” exists in Ukraine’s Armed Forces. “Everyone knows this and suffers from it,” he said.

As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on May 21 appointed Khomchak Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He replaced Viktor Muzhenko, who held the post from July 214.

Lieutenant General Khomchak served as First Deputy Commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces since 2016 and the Pivden (South) Command. He participated in military operations in Donbas, including in the Battle of Ilovaisk in Donetsk region during August and September 2014.
