The first results of tests taken in the evacuees from China’s Wuhan, crew members and a convoy group (103 persons) of the health facilities in Novi Sanzhary (Poltava region) are negative, Deputy Health Minister of Ukraine Viktor Liashko said at a press conference following the government meeting on Feb. 26.
“We have the first results of the tests, which we took in people in Novi Sanzhary: they are negative,” he said.
He also said that people crossing borders with the European Union were undergoing a temperature screening.
“We started to carry it out yesterday. Today, from 08:00, epidemiologists work at all EU border crossings; the seven largest checkpoints have ambulances to deliver people, who after temperature screening are suspected of being infected with coronavirus, to infectious hospitals, where they will conduct additional studies and take decisions,” he said.
According to Liashko, a new standard of rendering aid during coronavirus infection has been approved.
“Currently, the Ministry of Health has approved a new standard for the provision of care for coronavirus infected, introduced new temperature screening algorithms that have begun to operate throughout the country. They differ from those that operated on direct flights from China. We already have the results of temperature screenings; there have been several cases of temperature rise at the Tysa checkpoint, as well as in Chernivtsi. And these systems worked quickly. For example, the whole bus was isolated in Zakarpattia. There were two sick people, and until they had not pass additional tests, they were isolated in infectious diseases hospitals. They were diagnosed with no coronavirus infection, so everyone will be let home. We collect their contacts, they will be monitored in Ukraine according to established algorithms. Everything is calm in the observation. Morning physical examination did not record fever,” he said.
According to him, in each region, two reference infectious hospitals were chosen for receiving patients with a new coronavirus in case of need.
“In each region, two support bases have been identified that will take the first cases. In each of them, there are infectious boxes, mechanical ventilation apparatuses in the infectious wards, there are oxygen concentrators or centralized oxygen supply devices. They are ready to carry out resuscitation measures,” he said.
“We know how to act if an outbreak similar to an outbreak in Chinese People’s Republic develops: other departments are re-profiled, hospitalization will begin not to the infectious hospitals. Other methods work there, there is no question of isolation – there is a question of providing qualified medical care,” he added.
