You're reading: New criminal case opened after Saakashvili’s supporters free him from detention

The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case after Movement of New Forces party leader Mikheil Saakashvili detained by law enforcement officials was liberated by his supporters.

“In light of the detained Saakashvili’s liberation, a criminal case has been opened under Ukrainian Criminal Code Article 343,” a law enforcement source told Interfax-Ukraine.

Article 343 deals with interference in the functions of a law enforcement official or a state bailiff service official.
