One of a group of men who opened fire on July 24 evening in Dnipro has been arrested after he checked himself into a hospital for treatment. Two war-veterans were killed in the shoot out, and five received injuries, according to the Dniprograd.org news website.
“The shooters fled the site of the crime in a white Toyota. One of them was dropped off at the Mechnikov hospital for medical treatment and was arrested. Police have initiated the “Siren” plan in Dnipropetrovsk region to locate the other suspects,” the report says.
According to the website, which cites witnesses, four members of the gang were wounded in return fire.
The report says Donbas veteran Oleksiy Vagner, who served in the 20th separate battalion of the 93rd mechanized infantry brigade, was killed.
A former soldier whose call sign was Shchuka (Pike) from the 11th mechanized infantry battalion of the 59th brigade, was shot dead in the head and died on the scene, Dniprograd wrote.
The Kyiv-based 112.Ukraine TV channel identified him as Maksym Ivashchuk.
As earlier reported, police reported that two persons died and five were wounded as a result of a shoot out that took place in Dnipro on July 24 around 7.50. p.m. The two casualties were Donbas-war veterans. Lawyer Edmont Saakian, also a war- veteran, who was acquainted with one of the victims and represented him in a court case involving attacks on Donbas-war veterans on May 9, was also injured.
Police are investigating the incident and have opened a criminal case pursuant to Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder).
