You're reading: One Ukrainian soldier killed amid 30 enemy attacks in Donbas in past 24 hours

Russia-backed separatists have shelled positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbas 30 times in the past day resulting in one killed and another wounded in action, the press centre of the Ukrainian Military has reported.

The past day in Donbas zone was marked by an increase in shelling by separatists in virtually all directions,” the Ukrainian Army HQ said on Facebook on July 13 morning.

Ukrainian army positions came under fire from 120mm and 82mm mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, small arms, and cannons of infantry combat vehicles near Troyitske in the Donetsk sector. There were attacks on Ukrainian positions near Avdiyivka as well, the Ukrainian Army HQ said.

The Ukrainian army returned fire, using small arms and grenade launchers, it said.

The militants fired 82mm mortars on Berezove and Novomykhailivka, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms were used to fire on Krasnohorivka, Talakivka, Vodiane, Hnutove and Pavlopil, and 82mm mortars and machine guns on Maryinka in the Mariupol sector, Kyiv said.

The militants attacked Novozvanivka in the Luhansk sector three times, using small arms and grenade launchers, after 6:00 p.m. local time on July 12. Five 120mm shells were lobbed into the village of Stanytsia Luhanska around midnight, it said.
