You're reading: One Ukrainian soldier killed, another injured in Donbas

Russia-backed separatists have mounted 19 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in Donbas in the past 24 hours, with one Ukrainian soldier reported as killed in action (KIA) and another one as wounded in action (WIA), the press service of the headquarters of Ukraine’s military operations in Donbas has reported.

“In total, during the past day, the separatists conducted 19 aimed fire attacks, as a result of the separatist fire, unfortunately, one Ukrainian soldier was killed, another defender was injured,” reads the report posted on Facebook.

The separatists focused fire in the area of the Svitlodarska Duha bulge, which is in the Luhansk sector. In particular, separatists used 120mm and 82mm mortars and a whole arsenal of infantry weapons near the villages of Luhanske and Troyitske. Several 82mm shells blew up near the villages of Krymske and Katerynivka. Russia-backed separatists also fired heavy machine guns and small arms on our positions near the villages of Zaitseve and Novoluhanske, as well as grenade launchers and machine guns near the villages of Hladosove and Lozove. In addition, infantry fighting vehicles and small arms were used against the Ukrainian militaries of the village of Novo-Oleksandrivka.

In the Donetsk sector, the Russia-backed separatists opened fire from mortars of various calibers on the Ukrainian positions near the villages of Novotroyitske and Pisky.
