You're reading: OSCE envoy says no progress in settling conflict in Donbas

In the past four years the sides have failed to reach an agreement on settling the conflict in the east of Ukraine, Martin Sajdik, OSCE’s special envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) for Ukraine, has said.

“Yesterday was four years since the signing of the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements. This document lays the foundation for the Minsk accords and determines our current activities as well. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a solution to the conflict,” Sajdik told journalists, following a meeting of the TCG in Minsk on Feb. 13

He said he had voiced this stance on the eve of a meeting of the UN Security Council, which was convened on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the signing of the Package of Measures.

Sajdik said the meeting demonstrated the international community is greatly concerned about the events in the east of Ukraine. At the same time, he said, the humanitarian aspect of the conflict and the need for ensuring the safety of the civilian population received a special mention during the meeting.
