The number of ceasefire violations in the combat zone in eastern Ukraine slightly decreased in the past week, OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug said.

“Last week there was a decrease in the number of ceasefire violations by some 15 percent compared to previous week,” he said in Kyiv on March 17.

In his words, the sides continue to use tanks, mortars, artillery systems and other weapons.

“The SMM recorded 14,698 ceasefire violations in the last week – it shows that the sides disregard the Minsk agreements,” he added.

He also said that the number of explosions from tanks, mortars and artillery, including Grad MLRS was down 60 percent: 911 explosions last week versus 2,238 in the previous week.
