DONETSK – Ceasefire violations continue in the Avdiyivka-Yasynuvata-Donetsk Airport triangle, but the overall situation along the contact line in Donbas is relatively calm, OSCE SMM (Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine) Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug said.

Avdiyivka is one of the areas in the triangle where the ceasefire regime has been violated for a few days now, Hug told a briefing conference in Donetsk. The so-called triangle includes Avdiyivka, Yasynuvata and the area around the Donetsk airport, Hug explained. While he was there, the situation was more or less calm, he said.

Hug promised to visit the DPR-controlled village of Petrivske on Sept. 28.

Currently, the situation is relatively calm along the entire line of contact and the conflicting parties should make use of this situation, Hug said. Now everything is up to the DPR (self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic), the LPR (self-proclaimed Luhansk Pople’s Republic) to realize the disengagement, Hug suggested.

Hug also proposed to repair the bridge that links between the LPR and Ukraine at Stanytsia Luhanska.

Last night, Hug met with Ihor Plotnytsky, the head of the LPR, in Luhansk and recommended him to take measures in order to restore the bridge situated in Stanytsia Luhanska. Plotnytsky upheld the idea, Hug said. It is very important to have the bridge restored and ensure safe, two-way road traffic there, Hug said.

The SMM employees once again made sure that the opposing sides remain too close to each other, Hug added.
