The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) election observation mission has declared its readiness to support Ukraine’s new president.

“I think that it is incumbent on all partner organizations, politicians – particularly across Europe – to support the new president now in engaging in the reform process and engaging in the job of securing for Ukraine a prosperous and democratic future that we all aspire to for Ukraine,” PACE observation mission representative Angela Smith said at a briefing in Kyiv on April 22.

Smith said the new president received great support and was elected democratically.

“We have to support the country now, to support the new president, making sure that he gets this right and addresses the key issues around corruption, national security, prosperity, democracy,” she said.

According to the results of the Central Election Commission after processing of 100 percent of the electronic protocols, Volodymyr Zelenskiy has won 73.22 percent of the vote and Petro Poroshenko has received 24.45 percent of the vote.
