Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Paruby welcomes the decision of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which approved tomos and the charter for the local Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“This is manifestation of freedom of spirit, faith and a matter of honor for Ukraine. This is not only a religious issue. I am sure that this is the issue of national security and the strengthening of Ukrainian statehood,” Parubiy tweeted on Thursday.
He also noted that the Synod approved the “working date” of the Unification Council in Kyiv, which will create a single Orthodox Ukrainian church and elect its head.
