The management board of the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine (NPTRCU) [also referenced as Public Broadcasting Company (PBC)] has called on the supervisory board of the PBC to reconsider its decision on early termination of the contract with its board chairman Zurab Alasania.

“The board of the public broadcaster recognizes the supervisory board’s decision on early termination of the contract with the chairman of the board to be illegitimate and considers the decision made by unlawful means to be an extremely dangerous precedent. It calls on the supervisory board of the PBC to reconsider it in compliance with all legal procedures,” the management board said in a statement on Feb. 8.

The PBC’s board mentioned numerous violations of the procedure for making this decision, along with the secrecy of the vote, which were described in writing by Executive Director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union Oleksandr Pavlichenko.

“He is also a member of the supervisory board of the PBC. He was present during the voting and added his dissenting opinion to the protocol in which he disagreed with the way the decision was made to terminate the contract with the chairman of the board. Two more members of the supervisory board Svitlana Ostap and Yevhen Hlibovytsky joined him,” the statement says.

As reported, NPTRCU’s Supervisory Board on February 1, by nine votes out of 12, supported the termination of the contract with Alasania, who said he is unaware of the reasons for his sacking and that the voting procedure was violated.
