Visa-free travel between Ukraine and the European Union has made visas for Russia necessary, in the opinion of the People’s Front faction in the Ukrainian parliament.

“Visa-free travel with the European Union makes visas for Russia, the aggressor country, a pressing matter. The People’s Front insists on making this important decision,” faction leader Maksym Burbak said in parliament on April 11.

The State Migration Service of Ukraine is issuing 9,000 to 12,000 biometric passports daily, he said.

“The People’s Front requests that the Ukrainian Security Service and State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection to ensure smooth operation of e-systems preparing and issuing biometric identification documents to citizens,” he said.

The government should allot an additional sum of over Hr 200 million to open service centers which would issue passports and other documents, Burbak said.
