You're reading: Peskov: Obama’s position on Ukraine was unconstructive

MOSCOW – The previous U.S. administration’s position on the Ukraine problem was “a position of absolute blindness,” and it is unclear yet whether this “unconstructive position” is going to transform under President Donald Trump, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

“Instead of preparing for their future president’s inauguration, the ‘old’ Americans traveled to Kyiv,” Peskov said in a televised interview on Saturday.

“The carriage is about to turn back into a pumpkin. And the clock is about to chime midnight. But they are hurrying to Kyiv to lay down markers of their absolute ablindness along the entire perimeter and concentrate various sponsorship on Kyiv, on the Ukrainian armed forces’ provocative acts on the border, and so on,” Peskov said, apparently referring to former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Kyiv.

“This position is unconstructive. In what manner it is going to change, how it is going to transform, whether a new modality of the U.S. position on Ukraine will promote a settlement – you and we will see this very soon,” Peskov said.
