Ukraine intends to file a lawsuit against the Russian Federation with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) during two months to protect the rights of political prisoners, Ukrainian Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

“We are talking about the protection of the rights of political prisoners. We are preparing the evidence base and the text of the statement together with our international experts that we have attracted. And I am not authorized to disclose details at this stage, so that the aggressor state would not take advantage of this,” Petrenko said.

At the same time, he added that the appeal would be comprehensive and would concern all Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.

“We very much hope that this case would have a practical political character and would give an opportunity for additional instruments for the return of Ukrainians from Russian captivity,” the minister explained.

According to Petrenko, this will be a separate claim and it is planned to be filed within the next two months.
