You're reading: Police conduct internal investigation into beating of businessman Igor Boyko

Police officers did not use force against businessman Igor Boyko during his delivery from the courtroom, Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs wrote on Twitter.

“The suspect, I.Boyko, behaved inadequately in the courtroom. According to preliminary information, the police did not use force against the suspect during the delivery from the courtroom. An internal investigation is under way now,” the ministry said.

As reported, Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court arrested Boyko for two months with possible bail.

Boyko’s partner, Denys Dolynsky, claims Boyko was beaten by the police, in connection with which the remand prison refused to accept him, therefore he was sent to hospital.

As reported, a conflict over ownership of the Zhytomyr confectionery began in 2010 between Yuriy Leschynsky and Roman Katznelson (CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi) as one party and Igor Boyko (Additional Liability Company ALC ZhL) as the other one.

The confrontation between the current and former owners of the confectionery deteriorated in the evening on December 30, 2015, when the shareholders of CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi reported they were unable to enter the factory’s area. They had the right to enter the area under a ruling by the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine of December 23, 2015.

At the same time, ALC ZhL stated that CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi owned only old equipment and the “ability to produce unknown products.” All brands, including the brand Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi are registered to the name of Boiko. New brands – Zhytomir Sweets – belong to the trading house of Boyko.

ALC ZhL accused Member of Parliament Serhiy Pashynsky and his companion Serhiy Tyschenko of the illegal seizure of the enterprise. Later, Pashynsky showed support for Yuriy Leschynsky, saying that he considered his Swiss-based Delta Capital to be a legitimate shareholder in CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi.

Now the factory is controlled by CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi.

U.S.-based Cobisco Union Inc. and Swiss-based Delta Capital SA, which are owned by Arkadiy Volovik, are mentioned by the State Register of Legal Entities and Individuals as the ultimate beneficiaries of CJSC Zhytomirsky Lasoshchi.

The confectionary in Zhytomyr was founded in 1944; it produces more than 250 types of confectionery. The total production capacity of the enterprise is 80,000 tonnes of produce per year. There are 28 production lines at the factory.
