ODESA – Police officers have detained 16 participants in a conflict in Odesa’s Glory Alley, which happened during the celebrations of the day of liberation of the city from fascist invaders.

“The police prevented the spread of the conflict, 16 active participants, representatives of various political forces and citizens who took part in the conflict have been detained,” the press service for the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region said in a report.

All detainees have now been taken to the city’s police units to provide explanations. Their actions can be classed as hooliganism, a crime proscribed in the Ukrainian Criminal Code, the press service said.

Apparent smoke pellets can be seen in one of the photos released by the press service.

The press service for the party Svoboda said the police have detained some 20 activists of right-wing organizations.

According to earlier reports, activists of nationalist and pro-Russian organizations clashed at Glory Alley near the monument to the Unknown sailor in Odesa, where celebrations of the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of the city from fascist invaders are taking place on April 10. A verbal conflict between ideological opponents led to a clash, but the police prevented a full-scale fight.
