You're reading: Police open 19 criminal proceedings based on information on violation of electoral law

In the past 24h, the National Police of Ukraine has opened three more criminal cases based on information received about violations of the electoral law, and since the start of the presidential election campaign, they have opened 19 criminal cases.

“Eight criminal proceedings are related to violations of electoral legislation. In particular, a criminal case was open under Article 159-1 (violation of the procedure for financing a political party, election campaigning, campaigning under an All-Ukrainian or local referendum) of the Criminal Code, some other five—under Article 160 (bribery of voters) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the press service of the National Police of Ukraine said on Feb. 7.

In addition, 11 criminal proceedings related to the election campaign were opened. In particular, seven criminal proceedings were opened under Article 296 (hooliganism), two more—under Article 171 (obstruction of the lawful professional activities of journalists), as well as one case—under Part 2 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In addition, the police registered 170 administrative cases based on reported violations of the electoral law.
