Polish President Andrzej Duda has congratulated Volodymyr Zelenskiy on his victory in the presidential elections in Ukraine and invited him to visit Poland.
“President Andrzej Duda has congratulated Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a telephone conversation and invited him to Poland,” the Office of the President of Poland said on Twitter on April 21.
In addition, the Polish channel TVP Info reports that Duda wished Zelenskiy “success in serving the Ukrainian people” and expressed the hope that he would bring “Polish-Ukrainian relations to a new stage.”
“This choice demonstrates the expectations of Ukrainian society with regard to a significant acceleration of the actions of state authorities in reforming the country’s political and economic sphere and ensuring security and stability in Ukraine,” the Polish president said.
Also, the Polish leader expressed the conviction that the election of Zelenskiy as president of Ukraine would confirm the consolidation of the Euro-Atlantic course of the Ukrainian state. “Poland will consistently support Ukraine on its way to Europe and the Euro-Atlantic community,” the channel said.
Duda also noted Poland’s readiness to further fully assist Ukraine in security issues and reforms. “You can count on my personal involvement in this issue. Our states should become an example of partnership in the region, strengthening of friendly relations and consensus,” the Polish president said.
In addition, he expressed the conviction that a new look at the interpretation of the recent joint history of Ukraine and Poland would be conducive to building friendly relations.
“I deeply believe that your term of office will bring a positive breakthrough,” Duda said.
He stressed that Poland and Ukraine are connected with fellow feelings and common history. “The Poles have always kindly watched democratic and pro-European changes in Ukraine. We are constantly demonstrating solidarity to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. We do not stop efforts to bring it closer to European and Euro-Atlantic structures,” Duda said.
As was reported, Zelenskiy leads with 73 percent of the runoff vote, according to the National Exit Poll, while incumbent President Petro Poroshenko is supported by 25.5 percent of voters. According to the TSN’s exit poll, Zelenskiy was supported by 72.7 percent and 27.3 percent voted for Poroshenko. The exit poll results announced on TV Channel 112.Ukraine says that Zelenskiy got 73.7 percent of the vote and Poroshenko had 26.3 percent.
After the results of the exit polls were announced, Poroshenko called Zelenskiy to congratulate him on his victory for the presidency in Ukraine.
