You're reading: Poll shows one in four Ukrainians doubt mass protests

A total of 26 percent of Ukrainian respondents exclude mass protests in their populated locality in the near future, and 67.7 percent are not ready to endure difficulties during reforms, according to a survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

Some 37.5 percent of those polled believe that mass protests are unlikely to happen in their locality, 19.8 percent think that such protests are probable, 6.4 percent are confident that they will be held, and 10.1 percent could not answer.

At the same time, 7.4 percent of respondents will definitely take part in such rallies, 14.8 percent will most likely participate in them, 25.1 percent will most likely not participate, 42.1 percent will definitely not participate, and 10.5 percent were undecided.

According to the poll, 37.2 percent of the Ukrainians surveyed are not ready to temporarily endure financial difficulties caused by reforms, because their financial situation is already difficult. Some 30.5 percent are not ready to suffer, because they do not believe in the success of reforms, 21.3 percent are ready to suffer, but not more than a year, 6.6 percent are ready to suffer as much as necessary if this leads to the success of the country, and 4.4 percent of respondents could not answer.

A total of 1,614 respondents aged over 18 years were interviewed during the survey. The poll was conducted from Oct. 23 to Nov. 5 in all regions of the country (except for Crimea and occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions). The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 2.6 percent.
