You're reading: Poll: Ukrainians unwilling to be personally responsible for president they elect

According to a poll conducted by the Sociology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences with support from the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF), 53.2 percent of Ukrainian citizens believe that they bear no personal responsibility for who is the president of the country, 30.4 percent of those polled said they are partially responsible, 7.3 percent of respondents said they are fully responsible, and 9.1 percent were undecided.

Also, according to the survey of the confidence in government and political institutions, 43 percent of respondents trust the army, 18.4 percent local authorities, 17 percent trade unions, 12.5 percent police, 8.1 percent the prosecutor’s office, 7.8 percent the president, 7.2 percent the government, 7.1 percent courts, 4.7 percent the Verkhovna Rada, and 5.5 percent were undecided.

In addition, 28.9 percent of those surveyed said that they do not have any interest in politics at all, 60.9 percent of respondents said that they have certain interest, and 10.3 percent said that have great interest in politics.

The poll of 1,800 respondents was conducted in all of Ukraine’s regions on Sept. 13-29.
