Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak and Federal Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany Ursula von der Leyen have held official talks on prospects for stepping up cooperation at all levels.

“It is important for us to feel support and continue joint work to counter external threats and challenges. I hope our meeting will result in strengthening bilateral cooperation in this direction,” the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry quotes Poltorak as saying.

In turn, Ursula von der Leyen said: “Our countries have established trustful and positive relations. Today we can frankly speak about further advisory assistance and any other issues.”

Poltorak proposed intensification of cooperation at all levels: the exchange of experience, advisory assistance, professional training, rehabilitation of Ukrainian wounded servicemen, and joint military drills.

He also proposed that “the officers of the German Armed Forces could be engaged in the Ukrainian agencies’ work “so that they could analyze information and draw professional conclusions on their own.” In addition, the minister invited his counterpart to visit Ukraine and personally see the changes in the country.
