Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak is convinced that soon the National Flag of Ukraine will be raised in all settlements in Donbas.

“I am convinced that the moment when the National Flag of Ukraine will be raised in all cities and villages of the Ukrainian Donbas, as a symbol of Ukraine’s unity and the inviolability of its borders, is already near,” reads the congratulations of the defense minister on the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, placed on his Facebook page on August 23.

In Poltorak’s view, today, during the check of the Ukrainian state for historical maturity, the raising of the flag is of particular importance for the participants in Donbas war “who daily, in the combat conditions, under the bullets of Russian-backed separatists, protect our Motherland from the terrorist threat.”

Poltorak reminded that more than 56,000 defenders of Ukraine were awarded with state and departmental awards. “For exceptional courage and heroism, strength of spirit in the struggle for an independent Ukrainian state, 32 officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were awarded with a high title – “Hero of Ukraine.” Sixteen of them heroically died defending Ukraine,” he said.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov is also convinced of the rapid return of the National Flag to the entire territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“Flushed with blood, pierced by bullets, National flags are guarded by our soldiers as the highest sacred thing. Our defenders win with our state flags, step by step, liberating Ukraine from the aggressor. The time will pass, and the blue and yellow flag – the personification of the peaceful sky and blessed land – will be raised above the entire territory of Ukraine: from Lviv to Luhansk, from Donetsk to Sevastopol,” he said in a congratulatory message posted on the site of the National Security and Defense Council on August 23.
