Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to put pressure on Russia to secure a swift release of the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch incident.

“Today I brought with myself an appeal to the Secretary General to press on Moscow to release the Ukrainian crewmembers. It was signed by thousands of Ukrainians. And I speak on behalf of all of them. We sincerely count on your support,” Poroshenko said during UN General Assembly debates on Feb. 20.
