President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Ukrainian film director Sergei Loznitsa on The Best Director prize in the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard competition for his film “Donbass.”

“Film “Donbass” of Ukrainian film director Sergei Loznitsa has received an award for the best director in Un Certain Regard competition at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. “I congratulate Sergei and the whole team that worked on the film. This is an important victory for Ukrainian cinema,” Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

As reported, on May 18, the jury of the Un Certain Regard program at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, headed by actor and film director Benicio del Toro, presented the best direction award to Ukrainian film director Sergei Loznitsa for his film “Donbass.”

The world premiere of “Donbass” was held on May 9. The film is planned to be shown in Ukraine in 2018.

Un Certain Regard is the second most important program of the Cannes Film Festival.
