President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Angela Merkel on her re-election as German Chancellor and wished further strengthening of the role of Germany in the international arena.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate Angela Merkel, the outstanding statesman of the present and sincere friend of Ukraine, on re-election as Federal Chancellor of Germany. I wish successes on the way to further strengthening the role of Germany in the international arena and overcoming unprecedented challenges of our time,” Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on March 14.
The president expressed hope for further deepening of the dialogue between Ukraine and Germany.
Earlier on this day, the deputies of the Bundestag elected Angela Merkel, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, the German Chancellor.
Thus, Merkel will take the post of Germany’s Chancellor for the fourth term in a row.
