The leader of the European Solidarity party, the fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has called the feat of the “cyborgs” at Donetsk airport a heroic page of the war for the country’s independence.
“The fierce confrontation between Ukrainian soldiers and the Russian aggressor at Donetsk airport will forever remain in the memory of the Ukrainian people. This is a heroic page of the war for independence. Our courageous defenders proved that the Ukrainian spirit is stable and indestructible, and the Russian aggressor cannot break the will and desire to live in a free country,” Poroshenko said.
“Eternal memory to the fallen heroes. Glory to the living defenders of Donetsk airport! And glory to Ukraine!” the politician added.
On Jan. 16 Ukrainians honor the memory of the defenders of Donetsk airport. The defense of the airport lasted 242 days from May 26, 2014 to Jan. 22, 2015.
